Your GEO strategy is three Reddit comments in a trench coat.

A 75,000-brand study, a suspiciously tall strategy, and why I want more than one channel doing the work.

The useful bit.

I give Reddit, the website, demonstrations and independent coverage different jobs. This study is a starting point for investigating that mix.

How I approached it

I reviewed the published study and kept the reported findings separate from my channel recommendations.

The trench coat is doing a lot of work.

I understand the temptation. Reddit shows up in AI answers. Therefore the entire strategy is Reddit. Put three comments on each other’s shoulders, give them a budget and send the invoice.

Ahrefs’ December 2025 study gives me a reason to think more broadly. It examined 75,000 brands and millions of AI responses. YouTube mentions had a Spearman correlation of about 0.737 with AI visibility. Branded web mentions ranged from about 0.66 to 0.71 across the products studied. Site page count was much weaker, at about 0.194.

The sample included domains with a Domain Rating above 40 and a highest-volume keyword with at least 800 monthly searches. ChatGPT and Google products used different question pools. This is an association in a selected sample, not proof that creating mentions will produce the same lift. Reddit’s individual effect was not measured.

What I take from it.

I want a brand to have a clear explanation of itself and evidence that survives outside its own homepage. A product walkthrough, a thoughtful independent review and a useful community answer do different jobs. I don’t expect one format to cover all three.

I also refuse to turn correlation into a shopping list. A brand with a strong product and a big audience may naturally attract more mentions and more AI visibility. Buying a pile of low-quality mentions does not recreate that situation.

My first question is where the relevant buyers already learn. If they watch tutorials, I look at video. If they compare implementation details, I look at documentation. If they ask other people what broke after six months, I am probably opening Reddit.

Give every channel an actual job.

Reddit’s job in my plan is research, useful participation and reputation. It can expose a gap quickly: a confusing price, an unsupported integration, an objection nobody on the team has answered clearly. That information should change the owned pages too.

The website is the place for precise product facts, comparisons, methods and evidence. Video can demonstrate the work. Independent coverage can add a perspective the brand cannot supply about itself. Other communities matter when that is where the buyers spend time.

I use a common question set to connect all of it. The same unresolved buyer question might need a better help page, a short demonstration and a thoughtful reply in a relevant thread. That is a coherent project I can evaluate.

  • Reddit: customer language, objections and useful conversations.
  • Owned pages: facts, pricing, comparisons and original evidence.
  • Video: show the product or explain the difficult bit.
  • Earned coverage: independent context and evaluation.

The budget follows the evidence.

I would start with the most important missing answer, choose the channels that can help address it and define what a useful result looks like. For a new brand, that might be better product explanations and real customer research before any broad distribution.

For a known brand, the problem might be a stale comparison or the same criticism repeated across communities. The next step would be to fix the underlying issue and publish a clear explanation people can reference.

I would track coverage and citation changes, then check qualified visits and enquiries. Reddit gets a proper role in the mix. The trench coat can go back to its day job.

The receipts. All of them.
